As the Thai Academic Library Network (ThaiLIS) aims to develop a union catalog database, it seeks to support bibliographic record management, authority control, and shared cataloging. This initiative facilitates resource sharing, reduces redundancy in bibliographic record creation, and enhances interlibrary loan services among higher education institutions in Thailand. Additionally, it simplifies the process for students, faculty, and researchers to search for desired books without needing to visit individual library websites.

The Center of Excellence in Information Innovation, under the School of Informatics, Walailak University, plays a pivotal role in developing a database system to support the union catalog operations of ThaiLIS member libraries. It also focuses on creating applications based on international standards for bibliographic control, ensuring compatibility with shared and copy cataloging practices. This effort aims to provide efficient interlibrary loan services and foster effective collaboration within the network.
