About the center:

The Research Center in Tropical Pathobiology focuses on developing new knowledge in tropical and related diseases that are major problems in southern Thailand. The direction of research is driven by two issues, namely, research on the pathology and pathogenesis of tropical diseases and research on identifying herbal and bioactive compounds used for the treatment of tropical diseases. The scope of research consists of two main aspects, including 1) tropical infectious diseases (malaria, helminth infections, and drug resistance of bacteria) and 2) non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and common age-related diseases), focusing on the integration of research into clinical and commercial applications regarding new approaches for the detection, prevention, and treatment of important diseases in tropical countries.

Objectives of the center:

  • Conduct research in pathology, pathogenesis, and drug development for the treatment of important tropical diseases.
  • Develop new knowledge in pathology and pathogenesis of tropical diseases as well as common age-related diseases
  • Discover the Thai medical plants and bioactive compounds for the treatment of tropical diseases as well as common age-related diseases.
  • Produce high impact international publications on the aspects of tropical and common age-related diseases.
