Vacancy for Programme Officer & Focal Point for Gender, Equality and Access to Justice

IIWRAW Asia Pacific!
We are looking for a Programme Officer who will support the IWRAW AP team to create an enabling legal environment for women’s access to justice, especially in the Global South, and who will be able to take the responsibility for using the CEDAW gender equality framework to:
 
  •  
  • enhance the capacity of women’s rights organisations (WROs) to engage with law and policy frameworks and justice sector institutions, including alternative justice mechanisms
  • engage directly with justice sector and legal actors – judges, lawyers, legal organisations – in order to engender the justice sector
  • convene spaces for WROs and justice sector actors to leverage their specific experiences and capacities towards identifying scalable solutions to key challenges concerning women’s human rights and access to justice
  • support legal strategies and women’s human rights litigation
IWRAW AP strives to provide a diverse, feminist working environment that is stimulating, challenging and supportive; and is aiming to transition from its Kuala Lumpur base to a virtual team. The successful candidate will join an expanding programme team of eight feminists from diverse regions of Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and North America. They will bring into the team an understanding of international human rights law and experience of working with the UN human rights treaty body system. Prior engagement with CEDAW will be a particular advantage.
