RIIE Holds Project Agreement Signing Ceremony and Briefing on Fundamental Fund for Fiscal Year 2027

On November 3, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence (RIIE), Walailak University, organized a project agreement signing ceremony and briefing on the Fundamental Fund (FF) for fiscal year 2027 (B.E. 2570).

The meeting was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Siwarit Pongsakornrungsilp, Vice President for Research and Innovation, who delivered a policy briefing on the University’s strategic direction for managing and driving Fundamental Fund research grants to achieve the University’s research objectives. He also signed research project agreements on behalf of Walailak University.

For fiscal year 2027, a total of 46 research projects have been awarded funding under the Fundamental Fund program. The project agreements formalize the University’s support for these research projects and establish a framework for their implementation in accordance with the approved research plans and objectives.

In addition, Associate Professor Dr. Wichitpan Rongwong, Director of the Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence, together with Mr. Jaran Patchimpet, Administrative Officer of the Institute, provided guidance to the principal investigators on project implementation, progress monitoring, and research output submission requirements associated with Fundamental Fund grants.

The briefing aimed to ensure that all principal investigators clearly understand the relevant procedures, reporting requirements, and research deliverables. It also emphasized effective and transparent research fund management, compliance with applicable regulations, and timely submission of research outputs in accordance with the commitments between Walailak University and the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI).

The meeting reflects Walailak University’s commitment to strengthening research management and ensuring the effective utilization of Fundamental Fund resources to achieve research targets and deliver tangible outcomes in accordance with national research and innovation policies.

Walailak University Holds the 8th Research Steering Committee Meeting of 2026

On Monday, October 5, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence at Walailak University held the 8th Research Steering Committee Meeting of 2026 at Moklan Meeting Room. The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwarit Pongsakornrungsilp, Vice President for Research and Innovation, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichitpan Rongwong, Director of the Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence, and heads of research centers from the University’s schools and colleges in attendance.

During the meeting, the Vice President for Research and Innovation presented an overview of the University’s research performance for fiscal year 2026. He also outlined strategies for developing distinctive and competitive research proposals that align with the priorities and directions of funding agencies. These strategies aim to enhance opportunities for securing research funding from both domestic and international sources, while promoting the development of high-potential research into high-quality research outputs with significant outcomes and impact.

In addition, heads of research centers from the University’s schools and colleges presented their research performance, as well as challenges and obstacles encountered during fiscal year 2026. They also highlighted promising research projects and research areas with the potential to strengthen the research capabilities and distinctive strengths of their respective schools and colleges.

The presentations and discussions provided an important foundation for integrating knowledge and expertise across disciplines, developing collaborative research topics, and aligning research initiatives more effectively with the priorities and needs of funding agencies. This collaborative approach will support the development of high-quality, impactful research and further strengthen Walailak University’s research excellence at both national and international levels.

ARDA and Walailak University Sign MOU to Advance Agricultural Research and Innovation

On 7 May 2026, the Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence, Walailak University, hosted the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on “Promoting and Supporting Research Grants for Agricultural Research and Human Resource Development in Agriculture” between Walailak University and the Agricultural Research Development Agency (Public Organization) (ARDA). The collaboration aims to strengthen education, research, and innovation in agriculture, as well as promote the utilization of research outcomes to enhance agricultural capacity, support farmers, and elevate industrial development for the benefit of both organizations and the country.

The MOU was officially signed by Dr. Taweesak Tanadechopol, Director of ARDA, and Prof.Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University. The ceremony was witnessed by Prof.Dr. Vissanu Meeyoo, Deputy Director of Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), who highlighted the importance of integrating the roles of universities and research-supporting agencies in driving research toward practical implementation at the regional level.

The MOU will remain in effect for a period of three years (2026–2029). Both organizations expressed confidence that this partnership will serve as an important mechanism for creating agricultural knowledge, technology, and innovation that will contribute to farmers, industrial sectors, and the sustainable development of the country.

Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence Hosts Special Lecture on Funding Opportunities for Early-Career Researchers

The Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence organized a special lecture entitled “Funding for Early-Career Researchers: Policies and Grant Support for Young Faculty Development” on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Meeting Room 1, 2nd Floor, Research Building, Walailak University. The event was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichitpan Rongwong, Acting Director of the Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence.

The lecture was honored by the participation of Mr. Ekapong Musikacharoen, Director of Research and Innovation Fund Management Division 3, National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), who served as the keynote speaker. The session provided valuable insights into research funding policies, strategic directions, application criteria, and proposal development techniques for grants aimed at enhancing the potential of early-career researchers and young faculty members.

The activity was designed to prepare faculty members and researchers for developing high-quality research proposals aligned with the strategic priorities of funding agencies. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in discussions, exchange experiences, and receive direct guidance and recommendations from the speaker, which will contribute significantly to the improvement of their research plans and grant proposals.

A total of 38 researchers from 13 schools participated in the event, reflecting the strong commitment and growing enthusiasm among Walailak University researchers to strengthen their research capabilities and enhance competitiveness in securing external research funding. The activity also supports the university’s mission to drive impactful and sustainable research that contributes effectively to national development.
